Dimitrios Antonitsis
Meet the artist, curator, and creator of Hydra School Projects, an annual exhibition and art festival on the island
The Walking Society
Dimitrios is something of a creative cornerstone on Hydra. Once a regular summer visitor, he moved to the island 40 years ago and has since been enjoying the geographical, artistic, and social delights of a place he describes as “magical”.
His time is occupied by his three dogs and various artistic endeavors, namely as the curator of the Hydra School Projects, a non-profit organization supporting emerging artists. And most recently, as curator of an exhibition by one of his favorite artists, Brice Marden, at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens.
Dimitrios' own body of work has traversed many mediums, from reinterpreting traditional Greek amphorae and working with photography to his current material de jour—aluminum.
