Protomagia
A seasonal celebration of rebirth
The Walking Society
The month of May is named after Maia, the Roman and Greek goddess of growth.
On the first day of this month, the Greek festival of Protomagia is celebrated with the creation of elaborate wreaths formed by braiding spring blossoms.
The custom of Protomagia is rooted in the ancient Greek tradition, which honored the end of winter, a time of darkness and death, and the dawn of summer.
